Microsoft, Fortnite creator Epic Games join forces

Mubasher: As Microsoft unveiled its latest device which projects digital imagery over the real world, Epic Games, announced an alliance with the US tech giant.

During a keynote at Mobile World Congress, Microsoft on Sunday unveiled its second headset HoloLens 2 which overlays computer images on the real world.

Epic Games’ founder and CEO Tim Sweeney revealed that HoloLens 2 will be supported in Unreal Engine 4 game design software, while the company would weigh integrating Microsoft’s $3,500 device into its strategy going forward.

Microsoft committed to allow any user to operate their own app store for the HoloLens or any similar Windows-powered headsets.

Sweeney called out Microsoft's commitment to openness as a reason behind the partnership, pledging to “resist efforts to build walled gardens around our lives.”

Previously, Epic’s CEO fiercely criticised Microsoft’s Windows 10 app store as “the most aggressive move […] ever made.”
